At the beginning I gave a time period for the action of taking a step to open the door to 24 frames. but I have the feeling of too fast, so I slow down the speed to 26 frames and then snap the keys to the integral frame. I think in that way, the audience can get more information while the character taking the step.
Then I refined the hands position in order to smooth the whole rotation movement.
Also, I change the slop of the hands to fit the door opening. Reposition the place of hand to fix the overlap of models.
For the corridor, I decided to render a dark and scared feeling. So, I need low light and dark wall and floor. Then I was attracted by the idea of infinity corridor.
Two shots from rendering:
For this part, I decided to do six shots. The character is going to open to door – A shot from the security camera at the up corner of the corridor – A inside out angle which see the character opening the door inside the dark room (slow motion) – A soda can falling on the ground (slow motion) – The character was scared by the sound so she suddenly turned her body – a long shot from the end of the corridor to the other side, light went out one by one, a man is walking to the character inside the darkness – The character was shocked and immediately goes into the room.
So, I begin to set up the initial pose by according to myself.
But I feel some kind of weird because the scene is not scare enough for me. It may be the light are too much or the length is much over. Then I asked my friend Ziyin for his advice, he said the scene is too shine and clear. So, I decide to close some corridor light on the back side.
# I need to extend the length of the connection part for adding turning black effect in pr when cutting the shots.
For the FMP, I decided to continue working on my project 1 in last term. It’s a horror based animation. The story-telling will follow liner structure. The part one I already did is the character enters into the strange hotel. And for part two I’m going to animate I call it the corridor part which takes place in the corridor of the hotel. The third part will be in the hotel room.
So, for the first part of my work. I checked all the poses to find the detail that I can polish. And I checked the feed back from Alan and Herman. I have some ideas of how to modify my first part animation. But for the reason that my first part failed to set project for Maya. So, the rendering process takes like forever. Hopefully, I can get them by the end of the term. Therefore, I’m going begin my second part of animation as my first task.
A short reflection to my previews two animations (Project 1 and 2). The speed of the animations may be too fast that the things I want to show to the audience may not be received by them. So, if I want to show some specific action or facial expression to the audience, I may need to use slowly camera or reduce the speed of normal motion.
Then I checked my storyboard to found the place that can be refined. So, here is the link to my original storyboard: Project 1 – Week 1Project 1 – Week 2
First of all, as the connection for my first part to second part. It’s weird if I suddenly cut the shot of closing door to the corridor, and it has no horror effect either. So, I came up with the idea of the camera was holding by someone. And after the character went into the hotel. That person put down the camera to the ground and followed the character. I that will be a cool and helpful shot for creating horror atmosphere.
So, I do the rotation for Z axis, add an acceleration to the rotation an ease in and ease out slope in the graph editor to imitate the putting down camera movement. And I add a bump effect to the animation for stimulate the reality physic.
Then in order to stagger the timing of rotation and falling, I lay back few frames to the rotation and extend the whole process of bumping to stimulate the physic.
Then I did a ease out on Y axis to stimulate the buffering.
Finally, I set the camera focus starting from the character then to the man after his leg cover the shot.
Finally I had done all the animation and render work. So, I’m going to enter the final process which is editing. I import all the PNG sequences into Adobe Premiere for further editing. The music I used is a Royalty free music called Cages. I added flash sound effect with white screen to apply the cut between shots.
This week I wrapped all the rendered shots together in Adobe Premiere. Also, I added sound effects and white noise of wind and crickets to the sound. The basic horror music is from INDIE FILM & MUSIC.
Finally, I add the length of turning off light in the scene that the relief falls to 2 frame rather than 1 frame. Because 1 frame really looks strange.
Here is the first outcome for my project 1.
And then I add a gradually increase earthquake sound to the angel part. Created an ending. Here is the final result. Cheer!
This week I finished all the animation work. Also, I check the work with Herman.
Fifth shot
Shot of the angle sculpture. That’s what the character sees when she walk in the door. The camera shakes and breaks zooming in with a gradually up tendency. I turned one side light off during the zooming to shows the angle under half light and half dark. Actually, I’m pretty satisfied with these shots.
Here is the playblast.
Some final rendered shot
Sixth shot
A close-up of the neon light. Flash and changed. Also, camera was keyed.
Some final rendered shot
Seventh shot
The door closing, shows that the character has already gone into the hotel. I simulated real weight when the door closed, the other door shook because of the weight of the door.
For the camera, I zoomed it in though the door closed. Also, I added a camera shake to it.
Some final rendered shot
Eighth shot
The final scene is the clock.
I chose a cold light and grey background to complete the scene.
The second hand moves on the last four frames of every second. And the animation is cut at 23:59:59. But I want the sound of the second hand to be heard at 12:00:00 in all black.
What’s more, I showed the animation work to Herman for suggestion. He thought that the noise of poor image quality actually helps the performance of horror animations, so, it’s not bad. In addition, the turning of should be faster. But actually, I did two turns in the animation, the first one was about a thirty-degree angle, and the first one was not that fast, because the character was also afraid of something behind. The second 30-degree turn was faster than the first, because she confirmed that the first 30-degree turn was safe. However, I will think about Herman’s advice on my FMP for this project further.
Also, he advised me to add a earthquake sound to the angel part which is really a great idea. I will definitely apply it to the sound effect.
The ninja get out from the glass prison in the character’s mind. And He begin to chase the character himself.
I rotated the camera a little bit as well as zoom in at the same time to create the feeling of chasing. Also, I applied motion blur to the animation.
Some rendered shots
Eleventh shot
These shots contains the character and the ninja. It’s a chasing scene. The camera angle I referred from My Hero Academia.
Some rendered shots
Twelfth shot
It’s the final shot which the ninja finally going to reach out and touch the character. I applied motion blur and slowed the movement of reaching out the hand. The animation ended by not clearly shows whether the ninja reach the character or not. This idea was given by Herman. And I think it’s pretty cool because for me the end is already written. When the ninja meets the character, the character will no longer run blindly, he will look back at the ninja, and get spiritual sublimation. That’s the breaking free from past.
